I am Jonathan Hatten. Students call me Mr. Jonny. Sonny Hatten is my father. I started training under him when I was 3 or 4. I also have a younger sister and older brother. We all achieved our black belts. I was 9 years old, I received my black belt on February 22, 1991.

I have done Taekwondo for almost 40 years. At the age of 8, I competed in Junior Olympic Nationals and had a 4 second knock out. It was the world's fastest knockout at the time. I have competed my whole life. I competed in Illinois and Missouri State Competition 9 times in sparring and forms. Most of my competitions I received gold metals. I have been to Nationals 6 times, with 3 gold medals. I have been to well over 200 Taekwondo and Karate Tournaments in my life. At the age of 14, I started training kickboxing under my father. I have also competed in kickboxing. At 19, I started training Jiujitsu under Ben Brooks. I became a blue belt at the age of 35. I also have competed in many Jujitsu competitions, such as NAGA. When I was in my early 20's, I started a kickboxing MMA class. Some of my martial arts students and I participated in cage fights.

At the age of 23, I opened up my own program at Nautilus. I taught there for 10 years. I produced many black belts. After Nautilus, we moved with my father to the dojang on Elm Street. I taught there until I moved to Brighton in 2015 to Intentional Fitness Center. I was there for about 6 ½ years until Covid closed the Health Clubs. Again, I produced many black belts. I also ran programs in the Alton School District for many years. It was through the 21st century and Stars programs. I also had a successful program at St. Peter and Paul Catholic School for 5 years. All the programs I ever ran or taught proved successful. I watched my father my whole life and trained under him. He was extremely tough and hard on us with his training. My father trained us as he trained in Korea. I had the privilege of working under my dad my whole life. I went to many referee and coach seminars, countless tournaments, demonstrations, classes, play dates, camping trips, bike rides and more. I have been following in my father's footsteps while making my own imprints.

I met my wife, Amber, at 20. 22 years later, we have 2 boys, Keegan and Kameren. My wife, Amber, became a black belt after years of hard work. Both boys attend classes. Kameren is almost a black belt. We are a 2nd and 3rd generation family of Martial Artists. I also work as a Teacher's Assistant in the Alton School District. I work with Autism and special needs children. My father and his family have all owned a business in Alton.
